Every ursmartID tag ships with both NFC and QR. Use whatever the scanner's phone supports — the result is the same.
Tap (NFC)
Any modern phone (iPhone 7+, most Android) can read NFC without an app. One tap opens the resolver page.
Scan (QR)
Every tag has a laser-etched QR code on the back. Point the camera app — no app install, no login.

The tag never exposes who the animal is.
Most pet tags etch a phone number or name right on the metal. ursmartID doesn't. The physical tag carries short opaque tokens that only resolve in our privacy-first architecture — and the full identity lives in a separate isolated database.
Opaque tokens on the tag
The NFC chip and QR code carry short random tokens — not your name, not the animal's ID. Nobody can read a tag and "look up" the owner on another service.
Junction token isolation
Tokens resolve through a dedicated isolated database that only stores HMAC references. Even a database compromise doesn't expose owner identity without the separate junction secret.
Role-aware disclosure
A vet sees medical summary. Animal control sees licensing. A finder sees a platform-mediated contact path. Nobody sees more than their context requires.
